Ice Fishing

Union County is surrounded by excellent fishing spots, and the winter season makes for prime ice fishing. There are two ideal reservoirs on either side of North Powder where anglers can drop a line.

Thief Valley Reservoir

Located along the Powder River, Thief Valley Reservoir is stocked with rainbow trout, along with some bass, yellow perch and bullhead catfish. In winters with a solid freeze, ice fishing is available out on the lake.

Wolf Creek Reservoir

Wolf Creek Reservoir is located in the foothills of the Elkhorn Mountains and is a popular fishing destination in Eastern Oregon. Remember to secure your ODFW permit before heading out on the ice and dropping a line to fish for a bite.
