Golf Getaway

Union County Golf Courses

Union County boasts two incredible golf courses where spectacular mountains and luscious farmland patchworks set the backdrop for unforgettable rounds.  Get ready to tee it high and let it fly.

The Golf Getaway Weekend - with two unique styles of golf and plenty of local watering holes and cultural hot spots, Union County will keep you planning return after return visit.

When you arrive in the valley on Friday late afternoon, check into The Lodge at Hot Lake Springs, centrally located between the City of Union and Downtown Historic La Grande.  Coming soon will be one of six gastro-pubs with amazing views of the hot springs.

Head towards Downtown La Grande and take a stroll past the many shops before grabbing a late-night dinner at Benchwarmers Pub & Grill - the second longest continually operating bar in the Pacific Northwest!  Home of the best wings in town - and 20 taps will keep you satisfied and hydrated before your weekend on the greens.

Saturday morning wake up early and grab a hearty breakfast at LJ Brewskis in downtown Union on your way to Buffalo Peak Golf Course for your first round of the day.  Whether you go for The Classic breakfast special or the ever-tasty biscuits and gravy, LJ's will make sure you're fueled for your best round.

Only a few minutes away, Buffalo Peak Golf Course, an 18-hole Links-style course is a do-not-miss course - and their description says it best:  "From the elevated tees of the first hole to the gently sloping fairway of the eighteenth, your senses will be captivated" while you "experience golf as it was intended."  But your trip has only begun...

Head north towards Island City and grab a lunch-to-go from Island City Market & Deli, where the sandwiches will keep your game at its best; from the custom-made sandwiches, pizzas, and refreshing beverages, you'll be on your way to the next course ready to go.

La Grande Country Club is a nine-hole private club, but open to all guests outside of the County - just make sure to call ahead for tee times!  Established in 1924, this tree-lined course is as beautiful as it is welcoming to the new and experienced golfer.  Make sure to enjoy a Mudslide, margarita, or club soda on the deck after a great round to take in the breathtaking views of Island City, Cove, and the Grande Ronde Valley.

Make sure to stop back at The Lodge before heading out for a second night.  After a long day out on the courses, enjoy a relaxing dinner at Dining at the Landing before enjoying some tasty suds (beers and root beer!) at Tap That Growlers!  Dining at the Landing is a locals' favorite for casual fine dining cuisine - a "destination dining oasis" with a focus on fresh, local foods, creative flavors to intrigue your palate, and dishes that will give you taste-overload satisfaction.  But save some space - Tap That, just a few blocks down the street in Downtown La Grande, offers up forty taps of beers, ciders, craft root beers and kombuchas to quench your thirst - not to mention some excellent late-night wood-fired pizzas and bar-bites when you're ready for round two.

If you've timed your trip just right, make sure to catch a show at the McKenzie Theatre, located within the Eastern Oregon University campus, the Liberty Theatre when it opens for some spectacular performances, or the Elgin Opera House - to dazzle your senses with musical fun before you prepare for another round the next day!  If you're into symphonies, community performances, shows, musicals, and more - any of these options are sure to please.

Take the opportunity to catch up on some much-needed rest on Sunday and head over to the North Powder Cafe for bigger-than-your-face cinnamon rolls and a menu full of some serious homestyle cooking.  Eat up then head over for a final round of golf back at Buffalo Peak.  Stop by the Union County Museum for a dose of history and culture before heading over to Kauffman's Market in Island City or Hines Meat Co. in La Grande for some local wares to bring home as souvenirs - and some delicious munchies for the road trip home!
